Fire Safety

Aaron and I cleaned out our filing cabinet, so we had to burn all the papers with our information on them (since we don't have a shredder). So Aaron proceeded to burn stacks and stacks of paper in our fire place. The kids thought it was great! A couple times they got a little close, so Aaron and I figured it was a good time to discuss fire safety. We let them know what to do if there was a fire in the house or if they were on fire. Then we all practiced crawling to the door, and of course Stop, Drop and Roll. This was their favorite. Needless to say they practiced it many times.

*We were at the library on Wed. and I had just finished chekcing out the books when Matt announced he needed to go to the bathroom. We were almost done, so I asked him if he could hold it until we got home. He took me quite literally and walked around the library the rest of the time holding "it" if you catch my meaning. I need to find a better phrase when asking him to wait until we get to a bathroom, otherwise we might solicite many more enquiring looks.

*Whenever I make any kind of treat, I always have tons of help. From measuring ingredients, to mixing, to the best part, licking out the bowl. Aaron continually bemoans the fact that since we had kids, he never gets to lick the beaters or spoons, but what can I say, he wouldn't look as cute doing it.

The Music in my Head

This week was my birthday, the big 27! I had a great day. Aaron let me sleep in (until 7:00) and then we proceeded to paint Matt's room. We had done the blue the day before, and had to finish with the brown stripe. It took a lot longer than we thought, and ended up being an all day project. But we're happy with the results. Matt however, could really care less. Although he did enjoy sleeping in Kaitlyn's room while we let some of the paint fumes out. Aaron then took me to lunch at the Olive Garden, and then got pizza for dinner. The kids helped him make some cupcakes for me to blow out. All in all, a fun day.
Not much else happened this week. Just the normal school, piano and hang out. I did capture a little video of Kaitlyn's interpretation of the Nutcracker. You might notice the lack of music in the video. Our camera was working fine, Kaitlyn was just dancing to the music in her head :) (she does that a lot).

Reversal of Roles

Tonight instead of me reading a bedtime book to Kaitlyn, she read a bedtime book to me. That's right folks, Kaitlyn read her first book all by herself. The wonderous book is Happy Christmas, Honey! by Laura Godwin. I just picked it up from the library yesterday. It was a momentous occasion. I would like to think that she worked so hard for the pure love of reading, but alas, 'tis not so. She was promised a Belle doll when she read her first book by herself. So tomorrow we will embark to the toy store to get the infamous Belle doll, and thus complete her collection of Disney Princess polly pockets. Next she'll be taking on War and Peace :)
